Boca Raton-based Guident has extended its AI safety agreement with Coastal Waste & Recycling for another 36 months, moving what began as a July 2025 pilot into a multi-site rollout across more than 40 waste and recycling facilities in Florida, Georgia and South Carolina.
What The Contract Covers
Under the deal, Guident deploys its WatchBot autonomous inspection robot with an AI analytics platform that centralises alerting and workflow. Robots run autonomous facility patrols and inspections; the software analyses the collected imagery and sensor data for thermal anomalies, PPE compliance, asset damage, tank-cage integrity and — critical for the industry — early fire detection on loaded trucks. Battery fires and self-igniting lithium cells in waste streams have become one of the sector’s costliest safety exposures, and Coastal is positioning WatchBot as its primary early-warning layer for them.
Scaling A Pilot Into A Regional Standard
Chad Abell, Coastal Waste & Recycling’s VP of EHS & Engineering, framed the technology as “real-time insights” that let facility teams “proactively address potential risks.” Guident Executive Chairman and CEO Harald Braun called the partnership “a new benchmark for technology-driven safety in the waste and recycling industry.”
The rollout follows Guident’s $2 million capital raise in May 2026, which helped fund the shift from a Boca Raton Innovation Campus pilot into recurring commercial deployments. Guident acts as system integrator and value-added reseller for the WatchBot hardware while wrapping it in its own proprietary AI monitoring, teleoperation and workflow software.
Waste And Recycling’s AI Safety Wave
The deal lands as autonomous inspection quietly becomes one of the fastest-scaling verticals inside physical AI. Field-services deployments — from DEEP Robotics’ X30 in Singapore power tunnels to SUPCON and Certis’ security robotics tie-up — are shifting robotics ROI conversations from novelty to insurance loss ratios.
For Guident, the 36-month term matters because it locks in recurring software revenue against the WatchBot hardware base. For Coastal, which employs more than 1,600 people and runs close to two million service pickups a month, the bet is that AI-driven inspection catches issues before they turn into truck fires, insurance claims or workers’ comp events.
