Meta released a native macOS app for its Muse personal AI agent on September 18, 2026, extending the agent from iPhone, Android and web to the desktop just ten days after the initial launch and giving it computer-use permissions across native Mac applications. The mobile app rocketed to the top of the U.S. App Store's productivity chart the week it shipped, and the Mac version pushes Muse squarely into competition with OpenAI's Operator and Anthropic's Computer Use.
What Muse Now Does On A Mac
Once granted opt-in permission, Muse for Mac can read files, messages, calendar entries, notes and email inside their native applications, then take actions on the user's behalf — drafting replies, scheduling meetings, exporting attachments, filling forms or moving files between apps. Every sensitive action surfaces an approval prompt, and a full audit log lives inside the Muse Secure VM that also backs the mobile agent. Meta added a voice-calling feature the same week, so an ongoing task can be paused, redirected and resumed by voice.
The Same Sentinel Stack, Now On The Desktop
Meta first detailed the Muse Secure VM and Sentinel agent architecture at the September 8 launch: every Muse instance runs inside a dedicated cloud VM with an isolated Sentinel process that vetoes network calls it has not approved. The Mac client extends that model to the desktop by shipping local actions as signed instructions the VM validates before allowing them to execute against the user's device, and Meta says a Confidential VM tier — encrypted with a user-held key — will follow later this year.
Shipping Fast Against Operator And Claude
"The team is shipping fast," Mark Zuckerberg wrote on Threads after the desktop rollout, following the launches of Muse Spark 1.3 for developers and Muse Glimmer 30B open-weights model earlier this quarter. With Windows and Linux clients also on the roadmap, Meta is turning WhatsApp's 3-billion-user base into a distribution moat that neither Anthropic nor OpenAI can match.
