Industrial site digital lidar perception for autonomous robots

Ouster (Nasdaq: OUST) and FieldAI said on June 2 that they will deepen a long-running partnership and standardize on Ouster's new Rev8 native color digital lidar to power FieldAI's general-purpose robot intelligence across rugged industrial environments. The collaboration was unveiled in a joint statement timed to the wider Physical AI buildout playing out across robotics this spring.

Putting digital lidar inside the 'robot brain'

FieldAI's Field Foundation Models combine data-driven AI with physics-based reasoning so that a single software stack can drive radically different robot bodies, from quadrupeds and wheeled platforms to humanoids and heavy equipment, without pre-mapped routes or supporting infrastructure. The company already uses Ouster's digital lidar to navigate GPS-denied environments, and now plans to roll Rev8's higher-resolution sensing and native colour output into production deployments with large enterprise customers.

Why Rev8, and why now

Ouster Chief Revenue Officer Cyrille Jacquemet said FieldAI's new class of foundation models "offers the reliability and adaptability required for autonomous robotics deployment at scale," while FieldAI Head of Hardware Andrew Mullen said Rev8's ruggedness and native colour are "helping FieldAI deliver next-generation physical AI solutions for industrial customers where it matters most, in the field." Rev8 fuses high-resolution 3D point clouds with colour imagery from a single sensor, simplifying the perception stack on safety-critical industrial robots.

Two strategies, one customer set

Both companies are betting on the same wave of buyers: construction sites, mines, energy facilities, smart manufacturing lines, security and government deployments where general-purpose robots can take on dangerous and repetitive work. FieldAI has raised more than 00 million from investors including Bezos Expeditions, Khosla Ventures and NVentures, and its leadership pulls from Google DeepMind, NASA JPL and DARPA's Subterranean Challenge.

The Physical AI moment

Tuesday's announcement adds to a wave of capital and partnerships flowing into industrial robotics, alongside Mecka AI's 0M Series A for robot training data and Nvidia and Unitree's H2 Plus humanoid platform. Investors increasingly see perception sensors and foundation models as the two halves of a single defensible robotics stack.
