Qualcomm Unveils Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 With 30B-Parameter On-Device AI

At Snapdragon Summit 2026, Qualcomm launched the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and a higher-binned Extreme variant, both on a 2nm node and tuned for on-device transformer workloads up to 30B parameters.

Qualcomm Unveils Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 With 30B-Parameter On-Device AI

Qualcomm opened Snapdragon Summit 2026 in Maui on Monday with the launch of two mobile flagships — the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and a higher-binned Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 — both built on a 2nm process and tuned for the on-device agentic AI workloads that will dominate the 2026-27 Android cycle.

2nm Oryon CPU, 10 – 13% Faster

Both chips carry the third generation of Qualcomm’s custom Oryon CPU, laid out as two 5 GHz Prime cores plus six 4 GHz Performance cores. That configuration delivers a 10% CPU uplift on the standard Elite Gen 6 and 13% on the Extreme, with Qualcomm crediting the shrink to 2nm for a step-change in energy per instruction.

The Adreno GPU sees the biggest jump. A next-gen slice-based architecture pushes rasterization 35% higher on the Elite Gen 6, with 40% better power efficiency, while the Extreme model adds AI-dedicated Adreno matrix cores and 18MB of on-die High Performance Memory to unlock 44% faster graphics for creator phones.

Transformer Accelerator Runs 30B MoE Models On-Device

Perhaps the most consequential change is inside the Hexagon NPU. A new Element Accelerator is purpose-built for transformer workloads, delivering 14% higher on-device inference on the standard part and a 35% boost on the Extreme, which also carries 50% more shared NPU memory. Qualcomm says that is enough to keep Mixture-of-Experts models above 30 billion parameters resident entirely on the phone — the same class of model Alibaba and Meta have been pushing toward mobile all year.

The chips are paired with the new Qualcomm X105 5G modem, which delivers a 10% downlink boost, and with Adreno Neural Fusion — a game-side AI upscaler that Qualcomm claims trims up to 40% off gaming power in supported titles. Cameras get a photonics ISP update tuned for 8K60 video and 4K240 slow-motion capture, both on the Extreme part.

Motorola Signature 27 First To Ship

Motorola beat every other OEM to the Extreme variant, announcing the Signature 27 minutes after Cristiano Amon left the stage. The device is Motorola’s first true halo phone since the Razr era, and comes as Google’s $899 Googlebook and Apple’s rumoured M8-class handsets crowd the premium tier. Xiaomi, OnePlus, Honor and Asus are expected to reveal their own Elite Gen 6 flagships before the end of October.

The launch also cements Qualcomm’s dual-vendor bet on 2nm capacity, and slots into the wider narrative that mobile SoCs, not data-centre GPUs, will be the platform where consumers first meet agentic AI at scale.
