Palo Alto stealth robotics startup Tacta Systems has stepped into the open with $75 million in disclosed funding and a bet that industrial automation's next unlock is not a smarter arm but a smarter hand. On July 27, 2026 the company unveiled TactaBot, a dexterous robotic hand system built to attack the assembly work that has stubbornly resisted automation.

A hand-first stack for high-value manufacturing

At the centre of TactaBot is the Tacta Hand, a human-sized 15-joint end effector driven by proprietary Fluidic Tendon actuation. Tactile sensors on the fingertips detect force and temperature so the robot can handle delicate parts, insert connector cables and assemble wire harnesses — three tasks Tacta says still require humans on almost every factory floor. The hand is paired with the wearable Tacta Glove, which records force, motion, temperature and video as workers perform tasks; that data trains what the company calls its Dexterous Intelligence AI engine.

The $75 million disclosed by the company splits into a previously undisclosed $11 million seed round led by Matter Venture Partners and a $64 million Series A led by America's Frontier Fund and SBVA, with participation from SoftBank, Woven Capital and B Capital. "Everyone is talking about a trillion-dollar market for robots, but the technology isn't there yet, because robots still can't use their hands," co-founder and CEO Vikram Pavate said in a statement. "The hand is the hardest problem in robotics, and it can't be solved without touch."

2027 deployments target electronics, AI infrastructure, autos

Tacta plans to begin deploying TactaBot with manufacturing customers in early 2027, starting with electronics assembly, AI infrastructure build-out and automotive plants before expanding to medical devices, aerospace and defence. The move plants the company squarely in the growing physical-AI hand cohort, joining names like Zurich-based mimic Robotics, Proception and hand-focused humanoid teams targeting similar workflows.

The pitch is timely. Reports from the sector this month have flagged that roughly 80% of U.S. factories still operate without meaningful automation — a gap that a general-purpose robotic hand paired with human-demonstration data could plausibly begin to close. Tacta is betting that whoever solves touch first collects the physical-AI training data everyone else will need.
