TOYO Buys A Second IQM Machine, Adding IQM Spark To Japan's Quantum Test Bench

Tokyo-listed technical house TOYO Corporation is buying its second IQM quantum computer — the 5-qubit IQM Spark — for its Kiba R&D centre, alongside the 20-qubit IQM Radiance already deployed at Japan's G-QuAT facility.

Tokyo-listed technical distributor TOYO Corporation (TSE: 8151) is buying its second IQM Quantum Computers machine — the 5-qubit IQM Spark — for its Kiba R&D centre in Tokyo, deepening a partnership that already put a 20-qubit IQM Radiance system inside Japan's G-QuAT facility operated by AIST. IQM said the Spark unit is scheduled for delivery in early 2027, with Radiance operations at G-QuAT expected to start by the end of 2026.

A shared test bench, not a private box

What sets the deal apart, IQM CEO Jan Goetz argued, is that TOYO is buying the machine not for a single project but as shared infrastructure for Japan's wider quantum ecosystem. "What makes this purchase matter is TOYO's choice to share capabilities with universities, startups, and researchers across Japan's quantum ecosystem," Goetz said.

Radiance for research, Spark for talent development

"By deploying IQM Spark and linking it with IQM Radiance 20, we support talent development, technology validation, and advanced research," said TOYO Corporation CEO Toshiya Kohno. Radiance, IQM's workhorse research platform, is aimed at algorithm and error-correction work; Spark is a smaller-footprint on-premises system that fits classrooms and lab benches, and IQM is positioning it as a first step for universities and industrial R&D groups.

IQM keeps stacking Japan and Europe wins

The TOYO deal follows a run of IQM commercial and roadmap news, including the company's Halocene logical-qubit roadmap for CSC Finland, its EUR 102M backlog reported in H1 2026, and NVIDIA's open-sourcing of CUDA-Q Logical. Together they underline how quickly on-premises superconducting quantum hardware is spreading into national research programmes.
