Vietnam has secured its foothold in commercial space. On August 11, 2026, Hanoi-based VinSpace announced that its first satellites will fly aboard SpaceX's Transporter ride-share programme in the second quarter of 2027 — the first satellite launch contract for a purely commercial Vietnamese aerospace company.
A Sovereign Play Backed by Vietnam's Richest Family
VinSpace is a subsidiary of Vingroup, Vietnam's largest private conglomerate, chaired by billionaire Pham Nhat Vuong. The Hanoi firm was incorporated in November 2024 with 300 billion Vietnamese dong (about $11.5 million) of committed capital. Vuong holds a 71% stake personally; Vingroup holds 19%, with the remainder split between his two sons.
What the Contract Covers
Under the agreement, VinSpace will design, build and operate the satellites; SpaceX provides orbital insertion through its Transporter ride-share missions. "Testing domestically developed satellite modules in orbit is an important condition for transforming the research and development capabilities of VinSpace's engineering team into real missions," CEO Vu Trong Thu said in a statement.
Vietnam's Space Ambitions Accelerate
