Anthropic Locks In 14.8 GW And $517B Of Compute As IPO Race With OpenAI Heats Up

Anthropic has signed $517B of compute contracts for 14.8 GW of AI capacity in 11 months, with an 11 GW deal from Amazon and Google alone worth more than $300B over 10 years.

Anthropic Locks In 14.8 GW And $517B Of Compute As IPO Race With OpenAI Heats Up

Claude developer Anthropic has quietly booked more than a decade's worth of AI compute in less than a year, signing supply contracts worth roughly $517 billion for 14.8 gigawatts of capacity, according to newly disclosed figures reported by Seoul Economic Daily.

From 1–2 GW to 14.8 GW in 11 months

Before October 2025 Anthropic's secured capacity stood at just 1 to 2 GW. In the 11 months since it has agreed to purchase 14.8 GW of power in aggregate, more than the output of ten of South Korea's newest nuclear reactors. The largest single contract covers 11 GW supplied jointly by Amazon and Google, worth in excess of $300 billion over ten years. Rival OpenAI plans to spend up to $750 billion for roughly 30 GW by 2030.

Korea's memory duopoly is a direct beneficiary

Anthropic disclosed in July that it had also signed supply contracts with Samsung Electronics and SK hynix for HBM and related memory. KB Securities said finished-memory inventories at both firms have collapsed to less than 10 days' worth in Q3, and Goldman Sachs expects the shortage to persist through 2028. Citigroup lifted its price targets on the two Korean giants as their exposure to hyperscaler AI capex hardens into multi-year backlog.

A pre-IPO signal to the market

Both Anthropic and OpenAI are widely reported to be preparing public listings. Locking in a decade of compute ahead of an IPO is unusual, but the two companies are effectively pricing their futures on how much silicon and power they control, echoing recent moves like CoreWeave's multi-billion Vera Rubin deal with Hudson River Trading, China's 9,800 EFLOPS 2026–2030 plan and Cerebras' 165 MW Finland build-out.
