From pilot to production at Hagerstown
The Hagerstown installation puts Dexterity's dual-armed Mech robot to work loading trailers in one of FedEx's largest ground hubs. The expansion follows a first pilot where FedEx and Dexterity co-validated the system on live parcels; the companies now say they will scale trailer loading and unloading across several U.S. hubs over the next few years. Only 4% of supply-chain operators have deployed robotics beyond a single pilot, according to industry benchmarks, making the move a rare production reference point.
How Foresight sees the trailer
Foresight is Dexterity's world model for physical AI. It fuses vision, depth and touch to predict how each pick and place changes the load, then reasons across three spatial dimensions plus time to optimize package placement for space, stability and throughput. That intelligence sits on top of Mech, a compact "superhumanoid" designed to squeeze inside the trailer and load it end-to-end while keeping human loaders safe on the dock.
Why the deal matters for logistics automation
Trailer loading has long been one of the last logistics steps to resist automation because packages arrive in unpredictable sequences, sizes and weights. A world-model-driven system that reasons about the final wall of packages — rather than just picking one at a time — is what FedEx says finally makes autonomous loading operationally viable at hub scale, with corresponding gains in safety, consistency and driver turnaround.
