Nio's third-generation ES8 has crossed 150,000 cumulative deliveries exactly one year after its launch, giving the Shanghai-based automaker its clearest lead yet in China's 400,000-yuan large SUV segment.
10,000 Units A Month, Locked In
Nio president Qin Lihong handed over the 150,000th ES8 on September 20, 2026 to Tang Limei, a doctorate-holding scientist, at a delivery ceremony marking the model's first anniversary. The most recent 10,000 units took 30 days to reach customers — the same pace as the previous batch — with the 140,000th ES8 delivered on August 21. Between January and August 2026, ES8 deliveries reached 99,893 units, more than the combined totals of the second- and third-ranked competitors in the same segment.
Owning The Premium All-Electric Slot
The ES8 ranks first in China's large SUV market at the 400,000-yuan (~$59,240) price segment across all powertrains, and holds the all-electric segment sales record outright. That is a meaningful data point: Chinese EV buyers at that price tier have historically leaned toward extended-range and plug-in hybrids, and Nio's clean-sweep BEV win here validates its battery-swap-plus-NT3.0 strategy.
Where The Bar Now Sits
The ES8 milestone lands the same week as Volkswagen's LiDAR-equipped ID.AURA T6 launch and the debut of the Dongfeng-Huawei Epicland X9 — a reminder that Chinese consumers are now buying SUVs at every price point on the assumption that LiDAR and 400+ TOPS compute are standard. Nio has responded by locking in ES8 supply for the fourth quarter and readying a facelift with the new second-generation NT3.0 battery-swap racks.
The Bigger Read
Nio has spent years defending a premium EV thesis on the back of battery swap and NIO Houses, and the ES8 is now the model that proves the thesis at scale. With a 10,000-per-month cadence sustained across two consecutive months and the delivery ceiling being pushed by capacity rather than demand, the ES8 gives Nio the anchor product it needs to fund its ambitions in the Onvo and Firefly sub-brands.
