UBTECH Robotics has rolled its 1,000th Walker S2 humanoid robot off the line, a milestone the Shenzhen-listed company says marks its decisive shift from prototypes and pilots to genuine mass production. To mark the moment, UBTECH lined up hundreds of identical Walker S2 units in formation at its manufacturing base, where one robot — wearing a cap and scarf — performed a celebratory dance.
From pilots to a production line
The 1,000-unit milestone caps a rapid ramp for the Walker S series. UBTECH delivered roughly 500 humanoids in 2025 and says more than 500 Walker S2 units are now operational across customer sites, with the company targeting annual output of up to 10,000 robots. UBTECH has also disclosed Walker S2 orders exceeding 800 million yuan, underscoring that demand, not just engineering, is now driving the build-out.
The battery-swap advantage
Walker S2's headline feature is a fully autonomous hot-swappable battery system — UBTECH says it is the first humanoid able to replace its own battery, in about three minutes, with no human intervention. That capability is aimed squarely at industrial buyers who need machines that approach 24/7 uptime rather than pausing to recharge. The robot is already being deployed in automotive manufacturing, electronics assembly, smart factories and intelligent logistics.
China's humanoid race accelerates
UBTECH's scale-up lands amid an intensifying contest among Chinese developers to move embodied AI into factories. The push mirrors moves by rivals racing to commercialize bipedal and touch-enabled platforms, such as Lumos Robotics' touch-enabled LUS2 and AgiBot's GO-2 embodied foundation model. It also echoes the broader physical-AI manufacturing trend seen at firms like Autonomique and in livestreamed humanoid demos from Richtech Robotics.
What comes next
Reaching four-figure production volumes is a meaningful proof point in an industry still dominated by single-digit deployments, but the harder test is sustained reliability and return on investment inside real plants.
