Denver-based Voyager Technologies on June 2 entered into an agreement to acquire Pittsburgh lunar lander developer Astrobotic Technology for up to $300 million, folding Astrobotic's Peregrine and Griffin landers, LunaGrid solar power system and reusable rocket programs into Voyager's strategic lunar initiative.
Deal terms and milestone earnouts
Voyager will pay roughly $162 million in cash and stock and assume about $9 million in Astrobotic debt at closing, with up to an additional $129 million in earnout payments tied to performance milestones, taking the headline figure to $300 million. The transaction is expected to close by early July 2026, subject to regulatory approvals.
Building America's moon base architecture
Astrobotic CEO John Thornton said joining Voyager provides the scale and long-term commitment the mission requires, with the company's Moon Base headquarters in Pittsburgh and operations in Mojave staying intact. Voyager intends to accelerate investment in Astrobotic's lunar and reusable rocket programs in support of NASA's Artemis program and Administrator Jared Isaacman's goal of a permanent U.S. presence on the moon by 2028.

A full-stack lunar platform
Post-close, Voyager will operate a lunar platform spanning mission management, communications and propulsion, surface delivery via Peregrine and Griffin landers, surface power via LunaGrid, long-duration habitation through Voyager's investment in Max Space, dust mitigation coatings, and in-situ resource utilization. Griffin Mission One, which is hauling two rovers and additional payloads to the lunar surface, will continue on schedule.
A growing space M&A wave
The deal lands during a busy stretch for U.S. space and defense consolidation, including the Katalyst Pegasus XL Swift Observatory rescue mission, the Blue Origin New Glenn Pad 36 return-to-flight and SpaceX's $75 billion Nasdaq IPO. Founded in 2007, Astrobotic has secured more than $600 million in NASA and Defense Department contracts and launched America's first commercial lunar lander.
