ANYbotics Opens Commercial Orders For Ex-Proof ANYmal X

ANYbotics Opens Commercial Orders For Ex-Proof ANYmal X

Swiss quadruped-robot specialist ANYbotics has opened industry-wide commercial orders for ANYmal X, the world's only legged inspection robot certified for ATEX and IECEx Zone 1 explosive atmospheres. The announcement at the SPRINT Robotics World Conference for Inspection and Maintenance Robotics turns a multi-year Early Adopter Program into a full commercial availability moment for oil, gas and chemicals customers.

A Category-Defining Certification

ANYmal X carries ATEX Zone 1 and IECEx explosion-proof approvals, letting operators deploy it in areas classified as having a continuous or frequent risk of explosive atmosphere without requiring hot-work permits or atmospheric gas testing before each visit. That capability — combined with legged mobility able to negotiate stairs, ladders and confined spaces where tracked and wheeled robots stall — is what BASF automation manager Peter Welter called "a novelty" when combined with Ex-zones.

500 Units In The Order Book

Over 500 ANYmal X units had already been reserved by EAP participants before the general order window opened. ANYbotics said it is scaling production output through its global manufacturing partner network, with first deliveries commencing in mid-2023. Deployments are already underway at PETRONAS, which has partnered with ANYbotics on Ex-certified legged robots since 2019 across upstream platforms, terminals and downstream plants.

Robotic Inspection At Scale

The commercial launch broadens ANYbotics' addressable market beyond the utility, mining and general industrial customers it already serves with the standard ANYmal, and pushes the company deeper into a niche where Boston Dynamics' Spot lacks Ex certification. Analysts expect Ex-rated quadrupeds to account for a growing share of the roughly $150 million-plus in ANYmal X pre-orders and bookings ANYbotics has cited across oil, gas and chemical operators globally.
