Orlando, Florida-based M-tron Industries (NYSE American: MPTI) has been awarded a $6.8 million follow-on production order from a major U.S. Department of Defense contractor in support of several large counter-unmanned aircraft systems (C-UAS) radar programmes, the company said on June 9. The order covers high-performance, oven-controlled crystal oscillators and other RF components and will be performed at M-tron's Orlando, Florida facility through 2027.
A second wave of C-UAS production, as the drone-defence boom picks up speed
The award follows a $2.7 million order for the same C-UAS radar family announced in April and reinforces M-tron's pivot from legacy commercial timing and RF components into long-cycle defence production. M-tron said the underlying programme is "anticipated to be in production past 2030," reflecting the Pentagon's push to shield bases, convoys, ships and critical infrastructure from cheap quadcopters, loitering munitions and Iranian-style one-way attack drones.
Where the money sits inside a counter-drone radar
The components M-tron supplies — oven-controlled and voltage-controlled crystal oscillators (OCXOs/VCXOs), filters, RF integrated assemblies and frequency synthesisers — set the timing reference, phase noise floor and waveform purity inside C-UAS radars and electronic-attack receivers. M-tron management said the customer is "one of the rising U.S. Department of Defense contractors" and that the same family of products is also being pulled into federal civilian agencies tasked with airspace security.

Counter-drone is now one of the hottest line items in U.S. defence procurement. The Trump administration's Drone Dominance programme is funnelling billions into kamikaze drones and the counter-drone radars and effectors needed to stop them, while the Department of Homeland Security has stood up a dedicated unmanned-systems acquisition office. M-tron management is using these production wins to underwrite a longer-term thesis that the company will keep capturing share as new C-UAS radar variants ramp.
