The Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC) has debuted Fengxing-001, a humanoid robot built specifically for aviation tasks, at the 2026 World Robot Conference in Beijing. It is one of the first humanoids from a Chinese state-owned defense group aimed squarely at aircraft manufacturing, maintenance, missile loading and simulated flight operation.
An Aero-Engineered Humanoid
Fengxing-001 stands about 1.8 meters (5.9 ft) tall and weighs 80 kg (176 lb). AVIC says it uses compact motors derived from aero-engine technology in the legs to improve load-bearing capacity, combines electric and hydraulic actuation via an electro-hydraulic hybrid drive, and uses aviation power-by-wire to deliver high-output joint movements. The robot can jog at up to 3 km/h, jump 30 cm vertically, walk while carrying 20 kg and manipulate 15 kg loads. AVIC has been developing the platform since 2024.
Missile Loading And Aircraft Piloting
According to AVIC staff, two or three Fengxing-001 units could do a missile-loading task that would normally require four to six workers. The company has also completed simulated trials in which the robot responded to instructions to operate an aircraft. Experts quoted by Global Times say a modified Fengxing-001 — with its lower body removed — could sit in a cockpit and convert older aircraft into unmanned platforms at roughly one-tenth the cost of full wiring and avionics modifications.
Part Of A Broader Chinese Push
Fengxing-001 landed at a WRC that has become a showcase for Chinese humanoids in high-risk work. The conference has drawn more than 300 exhibitors and paired with the second World Humanoid Robot Games, where X-Humanoid's TianGong Omni, Xiaomi's Tieda and Zoomlion's ZBrain also debuted this week. AVIC's push into aviation robotics extends the trend into a defense-heavy application area where Beijing has been steadily investing.
