Boulder-area autonomous logistics developer Stratom Inc. said on Aug. 12, 2026 that a team it leads has won a U.S. Army Project Sustainment contract to build the Tactical Autonomous Logistics Utility System, or TALUS — a modular autonomous distribution system designed to resupply dispersed forces in contested environments.
A 15.9 Million Dollar 18-Month Prototype
Total anticipated project value is 15.9 million USD across an 18-month prototype effort, Stratom president and CEO Mark Gordon told The Robot Report. The objective is to integrate and mature the capability and put it into soldiers hands for operational evaluation, including a planned Transformation in Contact unit rotation at a Combat Training Center. The Army will use those evaluations to inform potential next steps toward broader fielding.
Nontraditional Team, Militarized COTS
Stratom is leading integration and contributing its Summit off-road autonomy, robotic cargo handling and manipulation stack. Its partners are ND Defense, which supplies militarized platforms and armored cabs; Forterra, whose government-validated AutoDrive stack was bolstered by a $238M Series C earlier this year; GS Engineering, contributing model-based systems engineering and testing rigor; and Waltonen Engineering, providing hardware design, fabrication and integration. Stratom said the design uses militarized commercial off-the-shelf technology to accelerate integration and reduce development risk.

Where TALUS Fits
TALUS is intended to close the sustainment gap between Brigade Support Areas and dispersed forward units, extending operational reach while reducing soldier exposure to threats. The prototype has a modular architecture so it can accommodate varied payloads and evolve with Army requirements. It joins a busy month for Army-facing autonomy programs including Hanwhas Arion-SMET UGV mass-production award and Neros $500M FPV drone deal.
